13th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Today Father Martin presided at the Parish Mass and led us in the Intercessions. Father Mervyn concelebrated and preached on the Gospel of the raising of Jairus’ daughter and the woman with a haemorrhage for twelve years. He pointed out that when a child is very ill the parents will sometimes go to extraordinary lengths to obtain a cure or effective treatment. In our local newspaper there are frequent reports about fund raising schemes to send a child abroad for specialised treatment not available in the UK.  The woman with the haemorrhage was, according to Jewish Law, unclean and by touching Jesus he became unclean himself, something he was prepared to do for us all becoming unclean on the cross “cursed are those hung from the tree”. He had three witnesses Peter, James and John; today we are all witnesses to his unfailing love which we meet every time we receive him in the Mass. We must take his love out to the world.
