22nd SUNDAY OF THE YEAR

Father Martin, now returned from his holiday, presided at today’s Parish Mass. Father Mervyn read the Gospel, preached and concelebrated. Ann led us in our Intercessions.

In his sermon, based on today’s Gospel,Father Mervyn said how the Pharisees were very good at doing the right things but for the wrong reasons. Jesus reminded people present at the Sabbath meal with him, that they should take the lower place rather than the higher so that they can be invited to go up higher  When they were giving a banquet they should invite the poor, the lame, the outcasts in society who would not be able to reciprocate by inviting them back.  Jesus reminds his listeners and us: “Everybody who exalts themselves will be humbled”
