4th FRIDAY CLUB

The 4th Friday Club met today (its second meeting so far) and the subjects for discussion were “The Bankers Bonuses and the Welfare State” A lively and interesting debate ensued helped by the fact we had one retired banker to give us information we didn’t know. We looked at how the State had taken over from the Church is helping people suffering hard times, unemployment and sickness. Also at how the Church had been in the forefront of education.

It seems we are coming full circle in that in our area two churches are forming a “food bank” in which we will get involved in due course, to help those whose incomes are insufficient to feed their families. We also discovered that many Christians are still involved in education outside the realm of church schools, trying their best to bring the Christian Gospel to those who would otherwise not hear it.

ASH WEDNESDAY

ashwed

Almighty and everlasting God,
you hate nothing you have made
and forgive the sins of all who are penitent:
Create and make in us new and contrite hearts,
that we, worthily lamenting our sins
and acknowledging our wretchedness,
may obtain of you, the God of all mercy,
perfect remission and forgiveness;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
